Honor 6X review: Solid performance at a hard-to-beat price

Honor, Huawei’ s Smartphone e-brand for digital natives, launched Honor 6x in IndiaHonor 6x has large display than Honor 8 (i.e 5.5 inch display) which comes in two variants (3GB RAM+ 32GB) priced at Rs 12,999 and (4GB RAM+64GB) priced at Rs 15,999. Honor 6X is the cheapest dual camera variant from Honor brand. Honor 6x has many good features which we will discuss in the review, It supports 4G with VoLTE and loaded with 3340 mAh battery.

What’s inside the Box?

  • Honor 6X with built-in battery
  • Micro USB Cable
  • Travel Charger (5V, 2A)
  • Screen Protector (Pre-applied)
  • SIM Tray Ejector

The Brand new Honor 6X looks very impressive and elegant. Its dual camera feature makes Honor 6X quite different from other smartphones. The design is raised to a higher standard with Rounded edge that feels good to hold.

It comes with a full glass front with a sleek metal body. On the surface, we have 5.5 inch display which offers a 2.5D glass supporting 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution, a receiver and front camera is placed on the top of right hand side and proximity sensor on the left.

We received a gold 64 GB variant for the review, however, silver and gray are also available. The Honor 6X is powered by HiSilicon Kirin 655 octa core processor clocked at 2.1GHz coupled with Mali T830 GPU.

At the right side of the device there is volume and power keys. At the left side it carries a Hybrid SIM tray in which you can insert two nano SIM cards or a MicroSD card on the place of SIM 2 slot. It supports VOLTE (4G).

At bottom of the device, it has a Micro USB port, Loudspeaker and a microphone. This device also supports reverse charging feature via Otg cable.

At the Backside Honor 6x has two cameras (12MP+2MP). Its back camera is similar to Honor 8 which features bokeh effect. Below the camera there is a fingerprint scanner that allows you to unlock your phone in just 0.3 seconds.

Honor 6x highlights a 5.5 inch Full HD Display that supports 1080 x 1920 HD Resolution. The screen ticks most of the boxes: it’s accurate at representing colours, gets bright enough to combat the sun, and doesn’t turn to mush when you tilt it. Its ergonomic design, smooth curves, slim (8.2mm) body with metal frosted material, and 2.5D curved glass with premium texturing can not go unnoticed.

You can also change the display colors accordingly: like when you are outside you can easily adjust its color, also you can select automation feature. Here, Honor gives eye comfort effect for eye care.

Honor 6x comes with 64GB/32GB of internal storage and 4GB/3GB of RAM resp. which is Good for Gaming and Downloading lots of apps. Honor 6X is powered by HiSilicon’s Kirin 655 CPU, a brand-new mid-range processor that’s on a similar level to Snapdragon’s 625. It’s an efficient piece of silicon, and one that has enough power to comfortably perform many of the tasks you’ll want to throw at it. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with EMUI 4.1(EMUI 4.1 features a native weather component which left aligns by default and offers a neater, orderly home-screen layout). There are quite a few bloatware apps and games pre-installed – but thankfully, each of these can be deleted.

We played some games, gaming performance was smooth, I tried Modern Combat 5 and Asphalt 8 (high quality mode) both games worked great.

The Honor 6x has dual cameras, one of them is 12MP and other one is 2MP and between them they share aperture of F/0.95 -F/16. The camera does capture images that look like it is captured from a DSLR. The blurred background gives you the bokeh effect. One camera captures details on colour and other in black and white. Use the wide aperture mode to capture awesome DSLR style photos, you can shoot first and then refocus, change background blurriness later on. When using Wide Aperture mode the camera captures images in 8MP resolution. Camera quality is excellent. This handset can record FHD videos but hardware is powerful, it can play 4K videos. Front camera is a 8MP shooter.

Sticking with the default settings, pictures are well defined and bright. Colours are reasonably accurate, although often a bit washed out in sunnier conditions. It takes good landscape shots and captures strong tones with portraits.

The handset that I used for the review was packed with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage space but wait, a cheaper 32 GB variant with 3 GB RAM is there.. On first boot you will get around 52GB free space and on an average 2.3GB free RAM. OTG is supported.

Fingerprint scanner is good and accurate, it takes just 0.3 sec to unlock device in one touch. Most of the time, fingerprint sensors of some other smartphones does not properly work in wet fingers and sometimes, it takes time to unlock but Honor 6x even unlock the phone in wet fingers. It also come with a few gestures like taking photos, browsing photos from the gallery, answering calls, stopping the alarm, and bringing the notification panel.

There is a 3340 mAh non-removable battery. Battery life is good you can expect 5 to 7 hours of non-stop moderate to heavy usage. With mixed moderate usage the handset will last for one and a half days. It also supports Fast Charging but not like the smartphones based on Qualcomm Snapdragon chip which utilizes the QuickCharge technology.

Honor 6X is priced at Rs 12,999 for its 32GB variant and 64GB variant is priced at Rs, 15,999. It is exclusively available on Amazon. Honor 6X is available in three color variants – Gold, Grey, and Silver.

The Honor 6X is a very good handset with excellent dual camera wide aperture capabilities that help you shoot like with a DSLR, you get awesome Bokeh effects. Everything is good about this handset, performance, good for gaming, good battery life. A good to buy device.
