Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro Specifications at a glance-

Display

The phone comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED Display with 1920×1080 pixel resolution. The display is covered with 2.5D curved glass which seems becoming a new trend in the smartphone industry. The display also has Gorilla Glass protection and Smudge-resistant oleophobic coating. The display is vivid, sharp and bright enough to offer good colors and decent experience with good viewing angles. Zen UI also offers you to tweak the display from settings to get the desired results. You also get a Blue light filter for night reading.

Design

The phone has a metal unibody design that looks premium and stylish. The phone is very light as well as it weighs 147 grams and sleek at just 7 mm. I found the back a bit slippery and would recommend a cover for protection.

The phone has curved sides and the front panel is covered by the screen, with a fingerprint scanner embedded into the home button just below it. All these features give the device a premium look. It has capacitive back and Recent items buttons on either side of Home button. The metallic power and volume keys of the device are placed on the right and on the other left side it has a hybrid dual-SIM slot. At the bottom of the device, there is a Micro USB port, speaker grill, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. At the top of the device, it has a secondary microphone for noise cancellation. It has a dual front camera set up above the 5.5-inch display with a single LED flash.

The rear panel has a rear camera with dual LED flash and Asus branding. Anttena band lines at the top and bottom side of back panel also contribute to its look. In my opinion, the design of this phone is pretty impressive.

Hardware & Performance

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro has an octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with Adreno 506 GPU and 4GB of RAM. This phone comes with 64GB of storage which can expand via microSD card. The phone is smooth in performance and is capable of handling most daily tasks. I tried to play graphics-heavy games like Asphalt-8, browse multiple tabs, and watch videos online without experiencing any lags or crashes.

The phone has bottom firing speakers that create a loud sound. It’s ‘Hi-Res Audio’ certified to support 192kHz/24-bit audio files. You will also get earphones inside the box which is sufficient to enjoy music.

The fingerprint sensor of this phone also works fine and accuracy is good. Other than unlocking the phone, it can also be used to get calls.

Software and UI

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro runs Android 7.0 Nougat with company’s ZenUI 4.0 skin on top. The Zen UI offers heavy customization over Android and comes with pre-installed apps as well. One good thing is that Zenfone 4 Pro ships with less bloatware when compared to previous devices. Apps can be organized to show separately in the app drawer or in groups that stack together Google apps or social media apps etc.

While browsing the web, there will be a floating bookmark icon that lets you save the web page for offline reading in one tap. Asus has added ZenUI safeguard option in settings. It is basically SOS feature to help you in case of emergency.

You also have the option to create a copy of social media apps if you want multiple accounts on a phone. You can create a copy of Facebook, Messenger and WhatsApp like apps.

Camera

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro comes with a 24MP (12MP + 12MP ) front camera having f/1.8 aperture and 5 megapixels Omnivision sensor offering a 120-degree field of view with Dual Pixel technology. As the phone is all about selfies, I tested the front camera a lot. The front camera is quick to focus and pictures have a great amount of detail, which I liked. Colours look close to natural, though ones taken in bright sunlight look a bit over-saturated.

You also have the option to capture portrait shots but don’t expect shots similar what we get in a flagship phone. The portrait of Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro works fine only if there is good light around and the blur effect is good enough to have a good portrait. The rear camera also has the option to capture portrait and it works fine.

ASUS did not neglect the rear camera. It has 16 MP Sony IMX351 sensor coupled with a f/2.2 lens and an LED flash. It is capable of recording 4K videos. The camera does not support OIS (optical image stabilization) but is electronically stabilized on 3 axes when it records full HD videos.

The camera also supports a new Time Lapse Mode with Power Saving, which lowers the screen brightness and puts the ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro into the Airplane mode. Now you can take long Time Lapse videos without worrying about running out of power.

Connectivity and Battery

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro is backed by a 3,000mAh battery, which lasts for a day on moderate usage. However, if you’re into playing a lot of games on the mobile, you might have to charge it twice a day. The Battery looks smaller if you compare the phone with other competitors which are providing bigger batteries in devices for a price-point as low as Rs 6,999. The 10W charger takes over two hours to fully charge the phone.

This is a dual SIM (GSM and GSM) smartphone that accepts Micro-SIM and Nano-SIM. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, 3G and 4G (with support for Band 40 used by some LTE networks in India). I used this with idea ad Jio network and never faced any issue with network or connectivity.

Price and Verdict

While the smartphone industry is focused on dual-lens rear cameras, ASUS is taking a chance with the ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro by placing two cameras in the front. Now you have the choice of a high-resolution selfie camera, and a wide-angle selfie camera to fit more people or background into your picture. The phone targets selfie-crazy people who need a good phone with a nice camera, this phone is certainly for those.

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro is priced at Rs 23,999 and exclusively available on Flipkart. The front camera and good multimedia performance are big strong points for this device and are quite enough to make this stand out among other devices.

  1. This handset is light weight and easy to use / handle. The key attraction is the front dual cameras, even if you are not a selfie user you will become one, once you start using the front camera. Thanks for sharing this post .
